Brussels, May (EFE) .- Homosexuality is illegal in 80 countries and punishable by the death penalty in Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Yemen Sudany and in parts of Nigeria and Somalia, according to a report by the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA).
Panama stopped considering homosexuality illegal in 2008 and Costa Rica amended its criminal code in 2002 to eliminate the criminalization of sodomy scandal, but Burundi it became for the first time in history that a & ntilral of the organization, Renato Sabbadini, believes that homophobia stems from the idea that men and women should not be equal, but inconsistent play social roles between them.
ILGA says that this report would point to countries that continue to treat gays as second range, which should be ashamed for denying "the dignity, respect and enjoyment of all rights on an equal footing "to a significant part of their citizenship.
Homosexuality is legal in 115 countries around the world.Spain amended its legislation in this regard in 1979, behind France (1791), Belgium and Luxembourg (1795), Holland (1811) and Italy (1890).
The last European countries to decriminalize homosexuality were Portugal (1983), Estonia and Latvia (1992), Lithuania and Ireland (1993), Romania (1996) and Cyprus (1998 .)
In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), recognized only by Turkey, remains illegal.
